Johnnie Notions Project
We are delighted to announce that we, as well as 36 small museums across the UK, have been awarded funding from The Royal Society through their #PlacesofScience scheme.
This scheme celebrates projects that evoke curiosity, interest and enthusiasm by exploring science in a creative way.
We’ll be telling the story of 18th Century pioneer for smallpox inoculations, and Shetland crofter, Johnnie Notions
We'll be creating a short film to tell the story of Johnnie Notions, a local fisherman born in the 1730s, who saved thousands of lives. The film will use artefacts and photographs from the collections as well as recreations and interviews with local children and museum staff to celebrate the life of Johnnie Williamson, alias "Notions".
Once complete, the film will be shared throughout the community both in person and online, and screened at the annual Shetland Film Festival.
We cannot wait to get started!
