Shetland Boat Week Seeks Volunteers
Organisers of Shetland Boat Week are appealing for additional volunteers to help run events at this year’s festival which will run from 5th to 11th August.
Now in it’s fourth year, the event has a core of dedicated volunteers who help out with a range of activities including rowing, sailing, craft activities, information services and even carrying boats.
After taking a lower-key approach to last year’s event, Shetland Amenity Trust is set to deliver a full and exciting programme of events this year, with many new activities and extended delivery times. For that reason, additional volunteers are sought.
Opportunities are available for all abilities and a knowledge of boats is absolutely not essential! All that is asked is for a helpful and enthusiastic approach in return for an afternoon, day or week of fun and good company. Existing Boat Week volunteers return every year and work very well together with the organising team.
For an informal chat about volunteering or to find out more about what activities are involved, please contact Emma Miller, event co-ordinator on 077538 06095 or email emma@realtaevents.co.uk
A volunteer briefing session will be held in June when times and dates will be appointed to volunteers based on their availability and task preferences. Volunteers should be over 16 years old.
Event organisers are still keen to hear from anyone who has a traditional Shetland model boat to include in this year’s outdoor display. Boats built by Jimmy Smith and self-restored boats are particularly sought.
