Adult Learning - Groups
There are a number of events planned during the year by learning staff which are designed for groups. In addition to scheduled events, some sessions can be arranged on an outreach basis, or to suit group users.
See our Events Calendar for details of scheduled events, or contact us to arrange a specific event for your group.
Guided Tours
While scheduled tours are planned during the summer, additional specific tours can be booked for tour groups, community groups or school groups. Visitor Services Assistants can provide tours on a wide range of topics.
Talks and Lectures
Talks on specific subjects can be arranged for group visits or special events. Groups are also welcome to attend scheduled talks in the Auditorium.
Workshops
Workshops can be planned for group visits. To arrange a group workshop on a specific theme or activity, please get in touch.
Dementia Groups
Shetland Museum and Archives is proud to work with local Alzheimer Scotland representatives to provide a series of workshops for people with Dementia.
‘Dus du Mind’ is a monthly reminiscence session where objects and photographs are used to stimulate conversation and memories of the past. These are generally themed to a season or subject.
‘When I paint, I remember’ is a monthly workshop using arts and crafts to explore the Museum and Archives collections. This format won a ‘Scotland’s Dementia Award’ in 2014 for the innovative partnership arrangement with Alzheimer Scotland and NHS Scotland.
Community Groups
Many community groups hold regular meetings in their own local area. Shetland Musuem and Archives collections can be explored remotely by curator talks in the community, or by borrowing one of our ‘DISCOVERY BOXES’. To arrange a curator visit, please contact us.
