Scottish Heraldry Lecture
Monday, August 8th 2022 7:00pm
Shetland Museum and Archives
Created by Act of the Scottish Parliament in 1672 in the reign of Charles II, the Public Register of All Armorial Bearings in Scotland contains every coat of arms in legal use in Scotland for 350 years. Behind every coat of arms is a story, whether of a community, a local authority or an individual, from Nicolson of Lochend to Donald Trump, from Neven of Skousburgh to Sir Sean Connery. We will look at some of these heraldic stories which form part of our unique Scottish heritage with particular reference to Shetland.
This interactive talk will be given by Liam Devlin, HM Rothesay Herald of Arms at the Lyon Court whose title, like some of his jokes, dates from 1398.
