The Centre for Island Creativity at UHI Shetland, in collaboration with Shetland Amenity Trust invites you to join us for the first 'Woolly Thinking' conference, 18 - 19 September.

Inspired by Shetland’s history of innovative interaction between hand, machine and digital technologies, the conference will explore new approaches to design and making in textiles and beyond, at a time of growing concern about the impacts of materials and industrial processes on the climate and communities.

We have international speakers from Poland, Ireland and the USA, along with UK based speakers from London, Nottingham, Leicester, Ulster, Glasgow and Shetland.

The breadth of subjects is huge and includes discussions of place based craft and design heritage, citizen science and innovative applications of wool products including acoustics, 3D printing and footwear.

This hybrid conference will be streamed live to bring a live audience in Shetland together with an online audience from around the world. For in-person attendance, the two day conference programme is extended with local tours, social events and additional creative workshops.

More details about confirmed speakers, activities and tickets are available now on Eventbrite.
