For those curious to find out how the Up Helly Aa festival started and learn how it has evolved into the format that we recognise today, ‘Origins of Up Helly Aa’ tours will take place daily from Sunday 28 – Wednesday 31 January.
The origins of Up Helly Aa might come as a surprise to those who don’t know where it all began - it isn’t just about Vikings! Come along for a tour of our museum galleries to learn more about the event - the tours running on Monday and Tuesday will include information about the 2024 schedule while the Wednesday talks will more predominantly focus on the origins.
Tours are approx 45mins and will take place on:
- Sun 28 Jan at 12:30pm and 3pm
Mon 29 Jan at 11am and 2pm
Tues 30 Jan at 11am
Wed 31 Jan 11am and 2pm
