Bring your little explorers to the Shetland Museum & Archives for our heritage-filled fun sessions, designed especially for under 5's - where history comes to life through play and discovery!

It might be an idea to bring a change of clothes for your peerie one as things could get messy!
Weather - 9th February
Join us for a whirlwind adventure delving into the fascinating world of weather! Living in Shetland, we experience a lot of different types of weather, so why not explore this through play? This session will include sensory experiences for your peerie ones, and create a chance to introduce new words and ideas to your child’s mind. Be it rain or sunshine - we hope to see you there!
Polar Life - 16th February
Come along on a chilly adventure as we explore the colder climate at the north and south poles! Your peerie ones will have the opportunity to discover how both land and sea animals may live on the ice. Lots of hands-on sensory experiences will be available, including some icy temperatures in our water tray - a great way to learn about how ice melts!
In Da Rig - 23rd February
Back by popular demand, our ‘in da rig’ preschool session is a great way to experience ‘real life’ play. With lots of real vegetables on offer, your child will learn all about smells and tastes, while having a great time tearing and mashing vegetables. This kind of messy play is important for development, while being a huge amount of fun! Be sure to wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.
Graandfolk - 1st March
What better fun is had than with granny or grandad? While grandparents are always welcome at our preschool sessions, this session is especially for them! We will have a variety of toys and books available, as well as our water tray for a splashing good time. Parents/guardians are welcome to come along too!
Spring - 8th March
As the spring season starts to creep in, we thought we’d help kick-start it! In this session we will have a special frog pond set up in our water tray - look out for any little friends hopping around inside. Your child will have the chance to learn about some of the baby animals we see around spring time, including other kinds of life that springs up all around us. This colourful session will be sure to brighten up your day!
