VE 80 Night at the Museum
Thursday, May 8th 2025 7:00pm - 9:30pm
Shetland Museum and Archives
Join us to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day, marking the formal end of World War II in Europe. Throughout the nation, folk will come together in remembrance and celebration on this day.
Join us at Shetland Museum & Archives to mark the occasion as we highlight the many ways Shetland played its part, and what life looked like in the Isles during this time.
There will be much to hear and see with talks, the opportunity to view war-related displays, objects and military uniforms, and a ration cookery demonstration or two! Come along before 8pm to get your hair done in a 40's style with the UHI Shetland hairdressing students.
We’ll also have music, dancing and time to stop and reflect on what this significant occasion means to you, along with a Shetland version of the national beacon light-up at 9.30pm to round off the evening.
If you’d like, we’d also encourage you to come wearing your finest 40s inspired looks. Think Victory Rolls, Fair Isle Sleeveless Pullovers and Demob Suits!
