In 1970, after seeing Fair Isle knitwear on the streets of London, Chris Morphet, then an aspiring 26-year-old freelance photographer, travelled to pre-oil Shetland to document his fascination with Fair Isle knitwear. Morphet’s candid document the lives of Shetland islanders and the distinctive designs celebrated through Shetland Knitwear.
His striking portraits and photography serves as a fascinating social, historical, and cultural record of Fair Isle knitwear and the people who wore it in Shetland - as contemporary and relevant today is it was over 50 years ago.
