Saturday, June 12th 2021 - Tuesday, August 31st 2021
Da Gadderie, Shetland Museum and Archives, Lerwick
A must-see exhibition of painting, sculpture, site-specific installation and photography by Shetland based artist Roberta Fulford. Inspired by the islands wild beauty Roberta's bold artworks heavily feature water, wildlife and wilderness.
Roberta draws on the wild skies and nature surrounding her on the croft on Whalsay to create her bold artworks. She uses materials including paint, metal leaf, cast bronze, laser-cut, mirror polished stainless steel, repurposed wood, 3-D printed seaweed-based resin and found objects to create a varied collection of interconnecting works, all striving to express the awe she feels to live in such a beautiful wild place, whilst also seeking to consider the human relationship with the marine environment and natural habitat. Da Gadderie and the entrance foyer will be exhibiting Roberta’s pieces, inclluding the ‘Big Insect Chair’, which was made with the assistance of local engineers L.E.F.
Roberta's work heavily features water, wildlife and wilderness. The title of her exhibition 'Rooted/Flowing/Wild' is inspired by Virginia Woolf's words 'I am rooted, but I flow', these words resonated with Roberta - settling in Shetland but evolving and growing with the on-going experience of living among its beauty, which has inspired all of her work.
