John Johnson: Hobby Artist at Sea
Friday, November 4th 2022 - Monday, May 1st 2023
Location: ‘Da Neuk’ – a small exhibition space located in the upper boat hall viewing area of the Shetland Museum & Archives
This exhibition will showcase paintings by Shetland resident John Johnson who was born in Papa Stour in 1873. John Johnson was a seaman, and shipping was naturally his favourite hobby. As an amateur artist, he enjoyed painting local scenes depicting typical seascapes and landscapes. He often used photographs or illustrations for inspiration and framed much of his own artwork. When ashore, he sailed model yachts and made ships in bottles.
A small selection of his work will be shown in ‘Da Neuk’ – a small exhibition space located in the Upper Boat Hall Viewing Area of the Shetland Museum from Friday 4 November 2022.
