UHI Shetland Exhibitions
Saturday, June 8th 2024 - Thursday, August 15th 2024
Pier Store, Shetland Museum
Shetland Museum continues to support the work of UHI Shetland creative industries students, and we are currently playing host to a varied and interesting selection of the work produced over the year.
All About Everything - Eric Gray Participants
Mon 17 June - Mon 15 July
The creative work of Eric Gray Centre participants will be on show outside the Hay's Dock Café and stairwells. This exhibition will include paintings, prints, ceramics and photography. The latter was greatly inspired by last year's Artist Rooms Diane Arbus exhibition in the museum and explores perspectives in identity.
Boat Hall Commission - Professional Practice - in Da Neuk
Four BA Fine Art students developed art proposals in response to a hypothetical brief set by the museum to show their artistic concepts for the use of the Boat Hall as a creative space.
Students Susan Inkster, Tayla Hanks, Dee Henderson Haefners, and Estella Smith's have taken inspiration from nature, environmental pollution, cairns, the mirrie dancers and the fishing industry, each presenting diverse and thought-provoking proposals. Their work can be viewed in the 'Neuk' area in the second floor gallery throughout June.
Sympoieses - Amy Robb's Degree Show in the Pier Store
8th - 21st June, now closed.
Final year BA Fine Art student Ami Robb has elevated process over final product, installing her degree show work entitled 'Sympoieses' in the museum's Pier Store in the historic Hay's Dock area.
Her sculptural assemblages of waste and found materials create a tension between materials, challenging the viewer to consider them in a different context. As a multi-disciplinary practitioner led by material, research and process, Ami’s blended creative practice combines sculpture, textiles, ceramics, performance and participatory art. Her work conveys heightened environmental concerns, personal connections to the sea and a sense of place.
