Last chance to see Grayson Perry exhibition and hear from leading expert in contemporary art
To mark the close of the remarkable ‘Grayson Perry - A Potted Biography’ ceramic exhibition this Saturday 11 January, Director of Modern and Contemporary Art at National Galleries Scotland, Simon Groom will be delivering a special talk on the life and work of the artist.
Two of Perry’s pots, on loan from the Tate collection – Aspects of Myself and My Gods have been on display in Da Gadderie over the winter months. Both items feature intriguing motifs which deal with forces that shaped the artist’s character and draw on the symbolism of biography. The exhibition is entitled 'A Potted Biography'.
A personal friend of Turner Prize winning artist Grayson Perry, Groom has a unique insight into the artist and his work and will reflect on this in his talk, which will include a visual presentation put together by the artist himself. Groom has a wealth of experience in developing and promoting modern art with a fundamental focus on ensuring that art is for everybody.
Ruth Mackenzie, Chairwoman of the Shetland Amenity Trust who run the Shetland Museum and Archives service said: “This is a fantastic last opportunity for visitors to see this high-profile exhibition before the pots are returned to Tate as well as hear from a leading expert in contemporary modern art.
“Shetland Museum and Archives has been fortunate to have been able to bring world-class art to Shetland thanks to a generous grant from the Ferryman Bursary, which has helped support a wider programme of related events and activities that have taken place throughout the isles.
“We have had an amazing response to the exhibition, workshops and talks, with people interested to learn more and see the amazing vases up close, as well as take in the additional exhibition which focuses on everyday objects shared by local people that encapsulate their own life stories.”
The talk will take place at the Shetland Museum and Archives on Saturday 11 January at 2.00pm, tickets £5.00. The exhibition will close at 4.00pm.

The two Grayson Perry vases are on loan from Tate and key loans and activities have been made possible through The Ferryman Project: Sharing Works of Art which is supported by National Lottery Players through the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the John Ellerman Foundation and Art Fund.
