Museum Shop Sunday

The campaign aims to highlight the vital role of retail in helping arts, cultural and heritage venues to survive and thrive and is a little reminder to encourage consumers that when they choose to buy at a cultural venue, they are not just buying a gift, they are actively contributing to the future of that organisation, as well as supporting local suppliers and business.

Ailish Goodlad of Shetland Museum and Archives explained more about the event: “In addition to our own fantastic range of heritage inspired gifts, many of which are unique, we have teamed up with some of our amazing local suppliers too, to offer a lovely festive Sunday afternoon. There will be seasonal refreshments, mince pies and music while visitors can browse our shop and meet with other local makers.”

There will be ‘Have a Go’ crafting and demonstrations with Natasha’s Imaginarium (needle felting); GillyB (papercut); Linda Richardson (lino printing) and Eve Eunson (straw craft demos).

Ailish continued: “Visitors can meet the maker, watch how they craft their products and have a go at the techniques themselves. It’s a truly unique way to understand the incredible talent behind their products. The makers will also be selling some of their other items so it is the perfect time to grab some Christmas gifts and support local!”

Shetland Museum will also have a photo archive booth set up where visitors can browse through the Museum’s collection of over 80,000 local images and place a print or canvas order for a unique Christmas present.

Museum Shop Sunday is free and takes place at Shetland Museum on Sunday 1 December from 12 noon – 4.30pm.
